Sales Tax Exemptions for Commercial Businesses

Business owners, did you know a portion of your electric or natural gas utility bills may be exempt from State of Iowa sales taxes?  Energy used for certain equipment for resale, processing energy used in manufacturing, qualifying farm machinery, qualifying manufacturing equipment, pollution controls used in manufacturing, qualifying computers and qualifying computer software may be exempt from State sales taxes.  To qualify for this exemption, a detailed list of equipment including hours of operation must be submitted along with the exemption form.

Need help?  The Energy Group in Des Moines has qualified staff in place to provide an assessment of your business and determine what part of your energy bill is tax exempt. We can fill out the forms, obtain your signature and submit the documents to the State.  If you haven’t submitted a sales tax exemption form in the past, you may qualify for a refund.  Updated sales tax exemption certificates are valid for three years.

If you haven’t looked into a sales tax exemption or need your certificate renewed, give The Energy Group a call. Stop paying unnecessary taxes; and wouldn’t a refund be nice?
