City of Ames Smart 150 Challenge

The City of Ames is using their city’s sesquicentennial to reiterate their commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability through a new program. Alliant Energy Hosted Annual Energy Summit

Alliant Energy hosted their annual Energy Summit in Cedar Rapids, IA this week to celebrate their customer’s achievements in energy efficiency. Where were able to exhibit alongside contractors, engineering firms, and other energy services professionals. The Energy Groups Attends City of Ames Eco Fair

The Energy Group exhibited at the City of Ames’ Annual Eco Fair. Each year the City of Ames hosts this fair for all City of Ames residents to educate and raise awareness of sustainable practices, and to connect residents with business who can help them lower their impacts through a variety of methods, from rain capture to goat grazing, energy efficiency and more. TEG to Assist Dubuque’s GHG Reduction Plan

Have you heard of Green Dubuque? It is a volunteer-led, 501(c)3 non-profit formed in 2007 to serve the Dubuque region. These cats are focused on clean air and water, social equity, climate action, and energy efficiency (among other relevant issues). They’ve set an ambitious goal to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in their community 50% by 2030! They aim to achieve this goal, not through regulation, but through “no regret solutions” which, regardless of the severity of climate change or who’s to blame, will positively impact the community and environment. Iowa Energy Center: Your Resource

The Iowa Energy Center was established by the Iowa General Assembly and enacted in to law in 1990. It serves as an objective resource for all energy consumers; homeowners, business owners, energy professionals, students, etc. They research and demonstrate energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies at their two facilities, one at the DMACC-Ankeny campus and the other in Nevada, IA. They often provide training on renewable energy and energy efficiency. K-12 schools, businesses, and industry professionals can inquire about relevant workshops and training events. USGBC Hosts Legislative Preview

The 2014 Iowa legislative session is underway! Sunday we attended a legislative preview hosted by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). Those in attendance were able to discuss environmental issues and concerns as well as hear about related legislative priorities for the 2014 session. In attendance were key democratic members of Iowa House Committees and 10-12 groups, representing environmental-and energy-focused groups and businesses. 2014 Midwest Energy Solutions Conference

Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA) will host their annual conference January 14-16 at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago, IL. Over four hundred Energy professionals have already registered; representatives from utilities, energy services groups, distributors, and more. This annual event celebrates industry accomplishments, showcases innovations, and provides a forum for program and policy planning in the upcoming year. TEG will be sending a few of our own and we hope to see you there! Registration remains open.

TEG Backing the Grandview Little League Twins

The Energy Group and co-owner Kelly Needles both love baseball.  To show our love for the great American past time, we jumped at the opportunity to sponsor one of TEG’s very own.  Eric Biederman coaches and his son plays for the Twins at Grandview Little League.  Here’s to winning the league title, and most importantly, having fun!  Go Twins!

2013 Earth Day Trash Bash

Last month, The Energy Group participated in the 2013 Earth Day Trash Bash created and run by the City of Des Moines Park and Recreation Department.  The annual event is an ever growing effort to clean up streets and parks around the Des Moines Metro Area.  This year, over 1,400 volunteers braved the cold, windy day to participate in the citywide cleanup.  With the record number of participants, over 24,000 pounds of litter, brush & recyclables were removed from Des Moines parks and waterways.  The Principal Financial Group won the “Big Buttowski” Award of the event by picking up the […]
