DMPS to Charge Teachers for Personal Appliances in the Classroom

Today it was reported by KCCI that the school district plans to implement a new policy to charge teachers annual fees to keep personal appliances in their classrooms.  The ultimate goal is for teachers to get rid of personal appliances to reduce energy usage throughout the district.  For example, based on the national average 11.8 cents a kWH, one mini fridge can cost anywhere from $27 to $80 a year to operate depending on the model.  DMPS is among many school districts and employers throughout the country attempting to make similar behavioral modifications.  For example,  in 2011 Limestone County Schools […]

Two Energy Analysts Earn CEM Certification

Congratulations to Jonathan Roberts and Stefan Ganev of TEG who each earned their Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification! They trucked through a snowstorm to sit for the exam at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids in February. The Certified Energy Manager certification is utilized around the world and is a recognized standard of professional knowledge and achievement. Jonathan and Stefan now join our distinct team of Certified Energy Managers: Les Wilson, Chad Kloberdanz, and Eric Biederman. 2014 Midwest Energy Solutions Conference

Each year, the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA) holds their annual Midwest Energy Solutions Conference in Chicago, IL. The annual conference is a chance for energy professionals to continue to promote the importance of energy efficiency in the Midwest, while celebrating the accomplishments from the past year. New Addition to TEG

The Energy Group has added a new member to our staff!  Kate Kennedy started this month as our Energy Analyst Intern.  She will primarily be helping us run the City of Ames Residential Energy Audit program.  Kate will be assisting with residential energy audits and blower door tests.  She is currently a senior at Iowa State University studying Mechanical Engineering and spent the previous year with the Industrial Assessment Center Program (IAC) at Iowa State University. Classroom Efficiency Contest

TEACHERS: Are your students circus fans?  Are you interested in teaching your students about energy efficiency and sustainability?  If you answered “yes” to both of these questions,  TEG has a fun contest for your class! Amber, Les attend Republic Company’s 4th Annual Energy Summit

On October 2nd, Republic Company held their 4th Annual Energy Summit at the Bettendorf Waterfront Convention Center in Bettendorf, Iowa.  Republic Company is a wholesale distributor of support systems ranging from electrical and energy management to refrigeration and signs.  For the last four years, Republic has held their Energy Summit to discuss and review strategies and solutions for optimal energy consumption.  Amber and Les attended the Energy Summit to take part in the manufacturer trade show as representatives of MidAmerican Energy. Ames Creation Care Workshop

The Energy Group attended the Ames Creation Care Workshop on June 27th.  The Ames Creation Care Group is an organization of churches in and around the Ames, Iowa area.  Mary Jean Baker, an active member within the Creation Care Group, planned to hold a round table discussion about energy efficiency in light of the announcement of upcoming rate changes by the City of Ames electric utility.  TEG was asked to participate in discussion to inform church members about energy efficiency and the importance of getting an energy assessment.  We have been working with the City of Ames for several years to […]

Smart Energy Design Assistance Center (SEDAC)

We partner with the Smart Energy Design Assistance Center (SEDAC).  SEDAC provides free energy assessments, trainings and technical assistance to public sector entities, businesses and not-for-profit organizations throughout Illinois.  The program is sponsored by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and public utilities across the state. To date, the program has assessed the energy efficiency potential of more than 900 buildings throughout the state, identifying $38.6 million in potential annual cost savings.
